The true term of Body Wisdom is learning to listen to what the body has to say, not the mind/ego. Believe it or not, but the stomach has its very own 2ndbrain! It has over 100 million neurons, way more than even the spinal cord. This enteric nervous system lines our digestive tract. It is what stimulates the flight or fight response. Our thinking or programming comes from the ego, but the gut is where the true intuition comes from.
One of the biggest lessons I had with body wisdom is when I was pregnant with my daughter. I had been Gluten Free Vegan for several years and even mostly Raw Foods. These diets actually saved my life when I had cancer and helped bounce my immune system back. I was even able to get pregnant and stay pregnant. This was my 5thpregnancy and the only one that stuck. For that I am super grateful.
I was actually sick the ENTIRE pregnancy every single day. My body was screaming at me to eat meat! I really fought myself on this long and hard, but I came to the conclusion that I was not holding in any nutrients at all. I was burning through them as fast as I could put them in my mouth. I was so sick and with raging hormones, it was hard to focus to cook or prepare foods.
I had no energy, even though I was eating the diet that normally gave me lots of energy. As soon as I started to eat some chicken, it felt as if my life force had slowly started to come back. I was quite surprised that my philosophy of no meat forever was changing. I did go back to a smaller scale of the Blood Type Diet for A+ which is fish or poultry a few times a week or more. It really helped me a lot! I was still sick every day from being nauseous but that is mostly because my little one energy is quite intense and I am an empath. I did get sick less and less the more organic chicken and eggs that I ate. I am really choosy on the meats that I eat. Organic, free range and hormone free is the best. Now, that I live in Colorado, I can go to the local organic farm down the street and you can see at any time of day the chickens roaming around and what they eat. Wow are the prices much cheaper than the grocery stores too. Even if you don’t have a farm locally by you, it is totally worth the drive to get this kind of freshness.
So, bottom line of this blog, is that I am not knocking Vegans at all. I still go vegan and raw periodically. If I didn’t listen to my body wisdom, my daughter may never have been born and I may not have survived either. I would like to you to learn to let your ego go to the wayside, and tap into your own body wisdom. Your body and your health will thank you.
Ask your body what it needs. Pay attention to how different foods effect your mood, your sinus/allergies, but especially your stomach. Believe it or not, but your stomach has a brain all on its own! Ever heard the term, listen to your gut? Listening to the gut is how you tune into body wisdom, not just for what you put in your body, but what environment your body is surrounded by. So, pay attention to your body wisdom and see where it takes you.
Great message, gently delivered. We all tire of the holier-than-thou attitude of vegans and raw eaters. Listen to your body. Just moments ago my 80 year old mother was telling me about her visit to the ER because of stomach pains. The determination was a bowel blockage. I had to ask her: “how you get to be 80 and still not listen to your body?”
