Oh, It’s Just That Time Of Month!! How often do women hear many people say this statement about themselves or others? It is often an excuse we hear when we are feeling bitchy or edgy. When we are on or close to our cycle, we get an influx of hormones. What does this do to our bodies, and our brains? How can we learn to work with it – or even get empowered by it – instead of treating it like a monthly curse? That’s what today’s blog is all about…
We’ve been programmed to believe that our periods are pains in the ass and uterus. Society has taught us to shut up about it, eat some junk, go into hiding and take a chill pill. But did you know that our ancestors used to teach us how to embrace this time of month?
Let’s talk about how to embrace the power in your personal moon:
- LISTEN TO YOUR BODY. AND YOUR INTUITION. When you start feeling the waves of emotion come and go, stop and listen. What is your body trying to tell you? What is your intution saying? Journal about it. Release it. Talk about it with someone you trust. Start honoring your emotions and what they are trying to teach you. Don’t numb with food or alcohol. Don’t avoid by becoming a hermit. If your inclination is to react with a crazy outbursts, LISTEN. It might be your deep psyche talking to you, telling you something is wrong with that situation. Sure, sometimes we can all go overboard, but often times women are never truly heard until we blow a freaking fuse on someone!
- NOURISH YOUR BODY. OEat lost of fresh fruits and vegetables and drink a lot of water. Any foods that will increase your iron and B12 levels will really nourish you during your flow. Some things that you may add in are: eggs, spinach and all dark leafy greens, lentils, beans, nuts and seeds, brown rice, and even dark chocolate!
- BE MINDFUL OF WHAT YOU PUT IN AND ON YOUR BODY. One thing that can cause our cycles to be painful, or cause us to experience out of control emotions are what we put in and on our bodies. If you eat non-organic meat and dairy, you’ll certainly be filled with the extreme amounts of hormones that are pumped into the cows. If you don’t eat meat, but just consume some organic dairy, you’re not exempt. These hormones go into the dairy that you eat. Did you know that a cow is pregnant for approximately 283 days? They don’t take pregnant cows out of milking rotation. They produce more milk during these times. What happens to women when they’re pregnant? Our hormones skyrocket! It’s the same for cows. Even if they’re not injecting hormones into the cows, you’re still getting extra hormones in your dairy products. Also, do your research on the beauty products you use. Many of these beauty products and plastics we drink out of and put food in contain xenoestrogens. These are junk estrogens that our bodies don’t need and can throw us off balance and create ovarian and cervical cysts. Even a vast majority of female products for menstrual cycles and toilet papers have these xenoestrogens.
- SUPPORT YOUR BODY. Take a real chill pill. This one’s good for you, though. Girly Balance is one of my top selling products and, my oh my, does it help ALL of us. Girly Balance helps to balance those crazy hormones, estrogen levels and builds your reproductive system. It includes extra vitamins to build back what your body loses during your menstrual cycle. It contains Red Raspberry Leaf, Schizandra Berry, Peppermint, Uva Ursi, Chaste Tree Berry, Nettle, Rehmannia Root, Fo-Ti, Rose Buds, Hibiscus. You can take it during PMS and during your cycle. It is not to be taken every day unless you are trying to heal cysts and get your body back on a regular cycle.
